The Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County is located at 251 N Spruce St, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. The organization's mission is to support, elevate, and amplify artistic, cultural, and creative ventures throughout the region. The Arts Council was founded in 1949 and is the first and oldest Arts Council in the nation. It serves as the chief advocate of arts and culture in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, aiming to lift up, create awareness, and provide support to grow and sustain artistic, cultural, and creative offerings throughout the region. The organization is committed to diversity and values the full spectrum of self-defining differences among people. It strives to promote an environment and experiences that include, celebrate, and support the needs, perspectives, and contributions of all people in the diverse community. The Arts Council has a team led by President and CEO Shannon Henry, and its board of trustees includes representatives from various local organizations and businesses. The organization provides grants, facility subsidies, and gallery programming to support local arts and cultural initiatives. The Arts Council's facilities, including the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts and the Hanesbrands Theatre, are available for rent and host various events and exhibitions throughout the year. The organization also presents the Parks Concert Series, a free outdoor concert series in partnership with Forsyth County Government.
